Feb 27, 2018 · Feb 27, 2018. #1. I’ve been working on my 8n since December and I started for the first time since then. The problem is it’s only running on the two cylinders closest to the dash. It is getting fuel and good spark at all cylinders. I flooded it pretty bad and fouled the two plugs that weren’t firing. Re: firing order for 1949 8n ford tractor. Your father-in-law is correct about backfire, and it is most likely what you were hearing with the timing 180 degrees out on the distributor. Backfire is firing through the carburetor. This happens when the ignition fires on the top of the exhaust stroke, begining of the intake.I believe that the firing order for an 8N ('52 with sidemount dist.) is 1-2-4-3.
